Even though we don't have a record player
A photo a day over at Chicken Blog, too.
I am running a week behind on posting, even though I am still managing to take a photo each day. So a quick round of catch-up here and hopefully I won't get as far behind again. This is THE busiest time of year at work so it's been a struggle on every front.

6:30 am
from the driveway, after opening the garage door to head out to school. Celebrating each day's extended daylight~~~

Sunday-ish
Got out for a walk in the first time in forever, finally. Still snow on the ground here and there, but the roads were clear enough to be out there safely and the wind wasn't so bitter. I struggle to put aside the guilt and frustration -- why do I let myself go every winter, and have to work so hard every spring to get back? -- and think, well, perhaps a slump in the dark, cold, post-holiday days a reasonable accommodation in each year's cycle. Like hibernating, is what I'm thinking. Humpf.

Because the dodgeball team
were told there would be cookies. Only the tournament got postponed until next week, so we'll just have to bake 'em again. In the meantime we are celebrating...circular things.

Reasons
It turns out that the reason it's not a great idea for me and Dean to drive into Boston after school on a Friday to meet Ken and go do something is that traffic is horrible. Horrible. Somehow I always thought going into the city at that time wouldn't be so bad. Oh well! We still got there in plenty of time for the hockey game (BU over UMass Lowell in overtime, 2-1), and even though it's not the reason (entirely) that we go to see the games we also had plenty of time to enjoy the band.

Fresh
Happy Lunar New Year, happy fresh snowfall, happy first day back to work/school this week. It is a fresh beginning; our school runs on 5-week modules (rather than semesters or trimesters, etc.) which means that student schedules change every 5 weeks (and students get a four-day weekend every 5 weeks). Because we had two well-timed winter storms, I got the mod-break off too, essentially. Feeling ready to power through until spring.

Snow day
A work-from-home, watch the snow fall kind of day. Seems less likely that we'll lose power than on Friday, when we DID go without for almost 10 hours, although I'm always so grateful that Dean's automatic response to lights' out is to grab the board games while I light the candles.
And for last, Natalie asked after more of Dean's photos. I am waiting until the show comes down and I can scan each in directly, but for now:

Making Sunday last all week
An all day of turning things into other things, by way of chopping and cooking and stirring.

Winter farmers' market
An expedition with friends from work, to go visit the indoor farmers' market held at a huge, rambling garden center. I find that as much as, in the moments I am getting myself ready to get out the door, I struggle to make good on commitments to get out and do things with people other than Ken and Dean -- I do always enjoy it and wonder why I don't do it more often. Lather, rinse, repeat. Will I ever learn? At least I always do make good on my commitments, which wasn't so consistently the case when I was (much) younger.... I remember that I stood Ken up once, and I grateful he didn't hold it against me.

Shared passions
Dean created an independent study course in photography at school for himself (he'd already taken the available black & white film classes and wanted to continue learning); he chose 16 pieces to hang in the art show. I loved the work he'd done, the theme he explored, the way he arranged the work -- and that he'd very much made this happen for himself.

The best part
of any work day are the students I get to hang out with. It has been enlightening for me, as the mother of a son, to be able to get to know young women this age; to get a glimpse at their powers and struggles and joys.
