More than ever

I realize how time in the garden is grounding me this summer, making me able to focus on small moments in time and providing a daily check-in of purpose. They need me, my seedlings arching up into flowers, and I am comforted by them.

Mind-bogglingly, today we brought Dean to his college orientation program. Dropped him off for his overnight in the dorm and two days of programming, sat in on several sessions for parents. Not even a week out of high school, and already the next adventure begins.  (Happily, he loved it.)

My other brother, Tony. It should be so run-of-the-mill, so normal to be hanging out with my brothers, but years go by between visits. I see us all aging, and still so anchored in what was really just a few collective years of our past.

House full of family

Both of my brothers, one sister-in-law, and one nephew were able to make it out for Dean's graduation, and now we're reveling in a house full of family. Chris reminds me a lot of my dad....

So, so happy for him

 Our school has many special traditions around graduation; one is that students choose teachers to present their diplomas (Marvin, to the far left, looks on and cheers after having presenting Dean with his diploma), and that the head of school (Jane, in glasses) gives a hug -- that is, unless you have a parent who works at the school.  Then, the parent is given the choice of representing the school and hugging the new graduate. Of course I said "yes!" and of course Dean was delighted to see me there (a surprise for him). All the best to you, Dean, always.

Dean's very last week of high school, and everything's about to change. A huge week, with family arriving Thursday and graduation on Friday and milestones daily between now and then. I appreciate the quiet moments in the garden to start each day and ground myself.

Yikes! I knew I'd gotten a little behind on posting, with the million and one things going on here; I just didn't realize quite how much catching up I have to do. I've been taking pictures everyday, and thinking I'd carve out time to get back on schedule....

Very last game of high school athletic career. Dean, you were always a joy to watch and cheer on, and you are the epitome of good sportsmanship. I'll miss this very especially -- watching you run and leap and laugh and strive.
