We drove into town tonight, and walked through part of the Boston University campus on our way to dinner with a friend of Dean's and his parents. Justin was a classmate in high school, a boarding student from China who will also be attending BU with Dean. We stored some of Justin's things for him over the summer, and wanted to welcome Justin and his family to the BU community. We hadn't really had specific "it's your last night at home" plans, and initially it seemed a little too bad that this was the only night that was going to work for this outing; however, it turned out to be a pretty perfect way to celebrate and share and begin this next big adventure. Also helped me take my mind off all of it.
A photo a day over at Chicken Blog, too.

"helped me take my mind off all of it..."
I thought I was managing well, and then I had a glimpse of what's coming.
All summer I've been saying "Max moves in on the 18th." On friday an email arrived informing him that his move-in day is actually the 16th... I burst into tears! Apparently two days is a crippling loss, and I am utterly unprepared for _that day_
How do we prepare, and what can I do to help take my mind off all of it?? (And, yeah, maybe those are conflicting actions... lol)
It's crazy. It's wonderful, and it's exactly what they want and need to be doing, Max and Dean, and it's crazy. I hear you on those two days -- exactly. I do kind of have a mother bird feeling, so amazed and delighted that he could LEAP and fly off so beautifully -- but I have no idea what to do with myself back here in the (empty) nest. I will say that I wish we could have had some kind of plan for what we would do after dropping him off; it would have been nice to be able to have a plan for something lovely. But, Ken is still recovering from his surgery and the morning was more than enough for him. Meanwhile, I've started a quilt.....
