I was given a small fig tree (which cannot be planted outdoors because it must be brought in over the winter); I am nervous about taking just the right care of it and encouraged by this small sign of success.  Summertime, indeed.

A photo a day over at Chicken Blog, too.

Was at dinner with my friends last night, and Karen (A Master Gardener) was talking about figs! They do not flower, and so to be pollinated they need to be visited by particular wasps... they crawl into the fruit. So, I am wondering if this can be moved to an open area, in hopes of attracting the wasp, or if they are ever successfully hand pollinated?

It is planted in a very large planter (half whiskey barrel) and is summering in the backyard. My first-year goal with it is to get it to survive (so, trying not to kill it!); I'll look into this pollination business. Thanks for the info!
