It seemed as though we were not the only ones to find a day to be patriotic and celebrate being American felt quite hollow. We enjoyed each other's company, ate well, and appreciated the excuse not to be productive in any way. Sweet.

"Hollow," yes, that's the word. Over the years I have come to quite enjoy a gleeful and proud celebration, if only for the ideals and hopes we have for our country. This year was understated and quiet, even by our standards. Home, family, and appreciation of the time to enjoy both... I guess that's Independence & Freedom worth celebrating.
